Business Continuity Awareness Week 2014

Business Continuity Awareness Week 2014 (BCAW) is from 17th to 21st March 2014.  The theme for 2014 is ‘counting the cost’ – a theme designed to demonstrate the potential cost of not having an effective business continuity management system.

Steve Mellish, Chairman of the BCI, said: “Whether a large event like Hurricane Sandy, or a small incident such as a localized computer failure, no organization is exempt from disruption. While business continuity may not prevent these from happening, or negate all of the cost, it will help reduce the impact, it will help the organization to continue operating as normal as possible and it will help reduce reputational damage.”

InConsult encourages all organisations to ‘do something’ during BCAW. Director Tony Harb suggests a range of activities are available that range in complexity and level of staff engagement:

  • Update key elements of your BCP including any contact directories.
  • Ask Business Continuity Team Leaders to review and update their departmental plans.
  • Hold Business Continuity Awareness Training for the Crisis Team and Business Continuity Team Leaders.
  • Host a “Lunch and Learn” for all staff to outline key elements of your BCP.
  • Conduct a Business Continuity Exercise for the Crisis Management Team.  Contact InConsult for a list of 40 Disruption Scenario ideas.

Remember that whatever you do, it’s all about keeping business continuity front of mind and staff aware of your organisations response strategy!
